Not all witnesses are scholars, you know…but this is ridiculous.

CLERK: Please repeat after me: “I swear by Almighty God…”

WITNESS: I swear by Almighty God.

For when one palm doesn't cut it

CLERK: That the evidence that I give…

WITNESS: That’s right.

CLERK: Repeat it.

WITNESS: Repeat it.

CLERK: No! Repeat what I said.

WITNESS: What you said when?

CLERK: That the evidence that I give…

WITNESS: That the evidence that I give.

CLERK: Shall be the truth and…

WITNESS: It will, and nothing but the truth!

CLERK: Please, just repeat after me: “Shall be the truth and…”

WITNESS: I’m not a scholar, you know.

CLERK: We can appreciate that. Just repeat after me:

“Shall be the truth and…”

WITNESS: Shall be the truth and.

CLERK: Say: “Nothing…”.

WITNESS: Okay. (Witness remains silent.)

CLERK: No! Don’t say nothing. Say: “Nothing but the truth…”

WITNESS: Yes.

CLERK: Can’t you say: “Nothing but the truth…?”

WITNESS: Yes.

CLERK: Well? Do so.

WITNESS: You’re confusing me.

CLERK: Just say: “Nothing but the truth…”

WITNESS: Is that all?

CLERK: Yes.

WITNESS: Okay. I understand.

CLERK: Then say it.

WITNESS: What?

CLERK: “Nothing but the truth…”

WITNESS: But I do! That’s just it.

CLERK: You must say: “Nothing but the truth…”

WITNESS: I WILL say nothing but the truth!

CLERK: Please, just repeat these four words:

“Nothing,” “But,” “The” “Truth.”

My faith in humanity is restored. At least temporarily. A gentleman named Raven – a total stranger – reviewed my website here (and below) on a site previously unknown to me. In these discouraging times, when incivility, selfishness, self-absorption and greed run rampant, it is astonishing that a complete stranger took the time to dissect my website and compose such a thoughtful and wholly accurate (smile) portrayal of my professional history and philosophy. Constance Camus has spent an entire career in the legal profession, building reputation upon reputation as a keen mind in several areas of family and criminal law. Her latest endeavor is in the field of legal blogging, having set up her own company site and blog just over two months ago. However, few would suspect Camus of being a newcomer to the legal blogging world upon reading her informative, stylish blog, “Maryland Trial Lawyer.” In it, Camus contributes several quality articles which seem to have the consumer in mind. Camus explains legal details in very plain language and includes such quality content as detailed looks at the processes involved in obtaining protective orders, along with local legal news and commentary. Camus spent nearly a decade as a paralegal before becoming a full-fledged lawyer and thus the depth of her knowledge of the law appears to belie her 12 years as a licensed attorney. After working primarily as an appellate lawyer, Camus seems to have focused lately on the niche of domestic abuse, and appears both passionate and dedicated to this area of practice. She also makes her status as a solo practitioner very clear, and emphasizes a “personal touch,” which may be of great value to those who seek legal assistance in this oftentimes difficult area of the law. Constance Camus appears to have a bright future as a legal blogger if her dedication to such pursuits match that which she has shown as a committed attorney.
